Taxes and Spending

Americans are not under-taxed; the government over-spends

Liberals would have you believe that the problems in America stem from the fact that the government does not have enough money, that it is under funded. For this to be the case, Americans have to not be paying enough taxes. With a federal budget well over $3 trillion per year and growing, how could this be true? In 2009, for every one-dollar Washington spends, 46 cents will be borrowed. Unfortunately it will get worse.

What Should we do?

The solution lies not in giving the government even more of our money, but in limiting the size and scope and cost of government and by returning the money back to the rightful owners. . . YOU, THE PEOPLE! The government did not grow to this size overnight, and it will not shrink overnight, but we have to start somewhere. I will join with Senator Tom Coburn and Representative Mike Pence to be a budget hawk and to fight every attempt to grow the government in addition to leading every attempt to scale back its cost, scope, and level of responsibilities.

I Propose:

  • Cut spending and taxes across the board, as Ronald Reagan did in the early 1980’s in response to a severe recession
  • Call back unspent funds from the recent stimulus package, which is not timely, not targeted, and not temporary. Only in America can you borrow to spend what you don’t have and call that “stimulus”
  • Return the money to the people. Private citizens have a right to their own money and will spend it much more wisely
  • Give the Fair Tax a hearing and a vote
